I like Big Basins and I cannot lie

I arrived in San Francisco a day early for DrupalCon so I could get some hiking in. I was hoping to return to the Dipsea Trail, where I hiked the last time I was in San Francisco. But unfortunately I ran out of time. But luckily I did manage to squeeze in one hike during the trip. I headed south of the city this time, to Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The drive was around an hour and a half and took me through some beautiful, albeit harrowing, winding mountain roads.

Big Basin boasts a variety of trails and campsites.

Jennings Creek to Thunder Ridge

I feel like the last several backpacking trips I've taken with my local hiking group have been cold and rainy, and this weekend was no exception. As dour as this sounds, however, the trip was a lot of fun and Sheri did an excellent job of organizing.

A not so spooky hike

This was the second or third time I've hiked in the Harper's and Wilson Creek area in Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. This time we hiked eleven miles over Halloween weekend. The terrain wasn't challenging, but there were 14 stream crossings. These were especially challenging due to a lot of rainfall recently.
